Salem Mass
Restaurant News
Great Escape Restaurant
is very close to opening, located
in the former Salem jail. The restaurant will serve American fare, like steaks and
fish, as well as Italian dishes and small plates (also know as tapas, it
is evidently "The" item to have on your menu), with entrée
prices between $15 and $20. The restaurant will seat 78 people in the
dining room, 13 at the bar, and another 60 outdoors. They have used a
lot of the original jail construction materials such as the barred doors
and 200 year old granite floors.
You can see their Facebook page here.
Howling Wolf Taqueria
is now open. The place looks
fantastic with great decor. They feature burritos, tacos and other
Mexican foods at affordable prices. They also will specialize in
Spanish, Central and South American white and red wines, sangrias, and
Mexican and local beers. I just had the Chile Colorado Burrito and it
was excellent. They have a small bar that seats around a dozen people.
Try them out, and tell them SalemMassDining.com sent you!
The
Green Land Cafe
is now open for lunch from 11am to 4pm (as well as dinner hours). Check
out their tree covered patio outside in the back. A great place to hang
out on a nice summer day and enjoy some great food.
Check them out on Facebook!
The
Coven Cafe
& Artisan Market
is now open at 281 Essex Street in April. They bring to Salem some fantastic baked goods
including famous red velvet cupcakes.
They also feature meals-to-go, really delicious and not-your-usual sandwiches, fresh produce, breakfast items, and more.
Because The Coven Cafe is located right next to my office, I tend to go
there more than I should (according to my doctor) to sample their
goodies. But who can resist??
Adriatic Restaurant and Bar
is opening in the former location
of the Edgewater Cafe on Washington Street in Salem MA. It will feature
Mediterranean cuisine with emphasis and Italian and Turkish using fresh
fish, vegetables and pastas. One of the unique aspects of this
restaurant will be the use of a wood-burning oven for pizzas and other
baked foods.
Tony Lenas Sub Shop
has opened in the former location of Super Sub at One
Boston Street in Salem Massachusetts. Salem used to have Tony Lenas in 3
different locations in Salem before, so it is good to see them back.
They have great subs, made with a really soft Italian sub roll.
The Exchange
on Congress
appears like it will be a tavern-style restaurant with a varied menu
including steak, seafood, and pizza. The interior of the restaurant
looks to be offbeat in an industrial sort of way, with cartoonists and
graffiti artists giving the atmosphere a quirky overall feel. Located at
75 Congress Street, it is in the former location of the short-lived
Sonoma restaurant, plus past sensations Love Noodle and Red Raven.
We went years without a burrito joint in town, and now it looks like we
will have two! Beside the Howling Wolf as mentioned above,
Camida Mexican Taqueria is
opening up in Salem MA at 131 Essex Street near The Old Spot. Look for a
mid-late August opening. Their web site is
http://www.comidasalem.com/.
Seaport Cafe,
a new seafood restaurant has opened at the former location of Derby Fish
& Lobster at 215 Derby Street in Salem.
